14 course swan-neck

This Baroque lute has a string lengths of 720 mm and 1020 mm. It is after the Marx Unverdorben, Venice 158_ kept at Fenton House in London. It was originally a Renaissance lute but was converted to a baroque13 course swan-neck lute by Gabriel David Buchstetter, Regensburg 1747. The 14th course is to be able to play a low G below the usual low A, which is useful for playing Bach’s lute suite BWV 905. The multi rib back is Yew wood with ebony spacers and a red varnish. The neck is ebony veneered and the head is maple stained black like the original
